Brass screws were arranged beneath stained glass. Your shopping list rested folded in one palm. From every aisle, a green exit sign remained visible.
The nearest hardware shop now occupies a converted church. You need a packet of screws for a loose shelf. Your body sees the old doorway before your mind sees the shelves.
This does not need to become a spiritual milestone. You may enter, shop elsewhere, ask another person, order the item, or postpone the repair. Every ending remains complete.

The building cannot issue a spirit of bondage
Romans speaks directly to the fear of being brought back under a controlling identity.
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.Romans 8:15
The Spirit you received is adoption, not bondage. A room cannot reverse that gift.
You are God's child before you decide where the screws are coming from. Ye have received the Spirit of adoption. Received. It is in your hands already, and adoption is the most permanent arrangement one person can make for another; it does not lapse at a doorway. The Holy Spirit confirms that belonging on both sides of the old door, at the same volume, whichever side you are standing on at four o'clock.
Entering would not prove courage. Staying away would not prove fear. The decision is allowed to stay the size of the actual task, which is a loose shelf and a packet of brass screws.
You possess equal freedom to go in, to adapt, to ask somebody, to shop elsewhere, or to leave the shelf loose this week. The written word sets your standing as liberty rather than bondage, and liberty does not come with a recommended option printed at the bottom. The Holy Spirit is not leaning you toward whichever one another person would be impressed to hear about.
Your body may remember what the shop no longer is
A converted building has changed use. The nervous system may not update at the same speed as the property record.
You are not failing because stained glass still changes your breathing. Ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear. Read what that rules out. It rules out fear having any legal standing over you. It does not rule out fear turning up in a doorway and being noisy about it. The Holy Spirit meets bodily memory with gentleness instead of shame, and He knows the difference between a body remembering and a person rebelling even when you cannot tell them apart.
An exit sign may help. Bringing somebody trusted may help. Another supplier entirely may help. None of these is a technique and none of them is required.
You can also decide the shelf waits. A loose shelf is a practical matter, not an emergency summons to demonstrate spiritual health to anybody.
You have authority over your own pace and your own proximity. The written word puts adoption at the center of your standing, never compulsion, and those two produce very different kinds of obedience. The Holy Spirit guards that freedom without ever turning exposure into a command.
Practical planning may make the choice smaller. The exact screw size can be checked before leaving home. A friend can collect the packet without receiving the private history behind the request. Another shop may take longer and still be the gentler route. Online delivery may be convenient one week and impossible another. These are ordinary considerations, not spiritual signs. Freedom includes the right to use information, time, distance, and companionship without turning any support into a ritual. The Father does not hide approval inside the most difficult option. The Holy Spirit does not praise distress for being dramatic. Wisdom can choose the route with less strain, or the nearest route, or no route today. Every choice remains beneath adoption rather than examination. Even the unfinished shelf can stand for a while without becoming a symbol. A home contains many imperfect things and still remains a home. An uncompleted repair can exist inside a whole life without accusation, right here, with room for breath, thought, rest, and another honest decision.
The breakthrough is not crossing the threshold while your hands remain perfectly calm.
The breakthrough is the end of the test.
The bell tower is architecture. The stained glass is colored material. The screws are hardware. Your faith is not hidden among them waiting to be recovered.
You remain whole if you never buy one thing in that building. The written word hands you God's own family name through adoption, and a family name is not issued conditionally on which shops you can manage. The Holy Spirit makes this word complete out on the pavement, complete in the car, complete at home with the shelf still leaning. There is no version of it that requires the doorway.
Perhaps you enter and discover the place feels ordinary. That is allowed. Perhaps it does not feel ordinary at all. That is allowed too. Neither experience predicts the next one.
You may turn around after crossing the first aisle. Starting does not remove the right to stop. You may finish the errand and still feel unsettled. Finishing does not require a triumphant interpretation.
You are free of having to make bodily calm the evidence of faith. The Spirit testifies to your adoption, says Scripture, and notice who the witness is: Him, not your pulse. The Holy Spirit Himself holds the truth of your belonging, which means it is not being measured by a nervous system at any point today. A steady hand proves nothing. A shaking one disproves nothing.
The shelf at home can be repaired by another route or remain loose for a while. Its condition does not send a message to God.
You have God's nearness at that shop, on another street, beside an online order, or at home with no screws at all. Whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The written word gives you the word Father to use, and a father does not station himself in the hardest of his child's available options in order to be found. The Holy Spirit stays present across every honest choice on your card.
Old bell tower, you have lost the imaginary office of examiner. You are part of an address. The reader is God's child, already free.
Declare this over yourself
- Old bell tower, you are part of a shop address; you are not a test of my faith. The written word says I have received the Spirit of adoption, and the Holy Spirit confirms that I am God's child here.
- Fear that either entering or avoiding will expose something false about me, release your claim in the name of Jesus. I am free to choose care, and no shopping route measures my courage.
- God, You are my Father on every side of this doorway. Your written word names my adoption, and the Holy Spirit keeps me free. Keep my body in Your gentleness, guide any practical choice without pressure, and let the screws remain ordinary in my hands.
