The official envelope contains one removal date in bold.
Her name appears twice: once in the greeting and once in the sentence saying it no longer appears on the membership list. Beside the letter lies an open Bible. On a scrap of paper, she writes her name by hand.
The three versions of her name look strangely unequal. The printed ones belong to an office. The handwritten one belongs to her.
She knew the notice might come. Still, formal language has weight. A date and signature can make an administrative action feel like a spiritual pronouncement.
It is not one.
If your name was removed from a membership list, you are allowed to feel the ending. But the list never possessed the authority to make you Christ's, so it cannot revoke what it did not create.
Christ knows people, not entries
Jesus speaks in language more personal than membership.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.John 10:27-28
He says, I know them. His knowing is not outsourced to a list.
You are known personally by Christ at this moment. I know them. He does not say I have been informed about them, and He does not say I keep a list of them. He knows them, directly, without an intermediary, and He has never outsourced that knowing to anybody's registry. The Holy Spirit carries that belonging well past the date printed in bold on the second paragraph.
A list can be perfectly accurate about its own boundaries. It can report who is registered inside one organization, and it can report it correctly. It cannot declare who belongs to Jesus, because it was not built with that instrument.
The letter may raise anger, relief, sadness, or all three at once before the kettle boils. None of those needs correcting before truth is allowed to reach you.
You have a place in Christ that no membership process administers. Jesus knows His own, says the written word, and that knowing was not established by a vote and cannot be amended by one. The Holy Spirit makes it present in you without waiting on a committee's agreement.
You do not need to appeal the decision to secure your spiritual name. You do not need to return. Administrative closure can remain closed while life with God continues whole.
The paper has limits
Formal words often borrow more authority than they possess. A heading, signature, and date can look final.
Let the paper return to its proper size.
You are held a long way beyond every administrative boundary. Neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. Any man. The one who drafted the letter, the one who signed it, the one who moved the motion, and the part of you tonight that half agrees with them. The Holy Spirit settles that safety underneath your fingertip where it rests on the page beneath your own name.
The organization may control its records. It does not control your prayers, Christ's attention, or the Spirit's witness. It does not own the years you lived, the love you gave, or the person who walks forward now.
There may be practical losses attached to removal: messages that stop, access that closes, familiar names that disappear from view. Those endings can be real without becoming evidence that Christ withdrew. A spiritual identity does not become more honest by minimizing administrative consequences.
You are permitted to grieve the closed access and stay entirely secure in Christ. Scripture puts you in His hand, and being held there does not require you to feel nothing about what just closed. The Holy Spirit holds your grief and your settled belonging at the same time without ever confusing the two or asking one to apologize to the other.
Perhaps you expected relief and instead felt a sharp ache. Perhaps the letter confirms a boundary you already chose and still feels strangely rejecting. Human hearts do not have to select one clean emotion for an ending to be valid.
The removal date may return each year in memory. It remains a date in one system, not an anniversary of God leaving. His knowledge has no renewal form, review period, or expiration.
Christ knows the whole living person carrying this paper, now and always.
You have Christ's present voice after every organisational consequence has finished landing. My sheep hear my voice is written in the present tense and addressed to the sheep rather than to the institution. The Holy Spirit carries that voice into rooms where no former membership can follow you, which is most of the rooms you now live in.
This is not an argument about whether the removal followed a procedure. Your identity does not need that argument.
You have whole belonging with no current membership line anywhere. The written promise names Christ's own hand as the place of keeping, and a hand is not a registry: it holds rather than records. The Holy Spirit stays with you outside every registry that exists. Leaving an organization and leaving Christ have never been the same sentence, whatever the letter's tone implied.
The hidden fear may ask whether the letter confirms you left God. It does not. Leaving an organization and leaving Christ are not the same sentence.
The breakthrough is not putting your name back on the list.
It is seeing that the list was never the book of your life.
You are Christ's known one on the far side of the removal date. Scripture gives His present knowledge and His unbreakable grip in the same breath, and the removal date appears in neither. The Holy Spirit keeps that promise alive while the envelope lies open on the table with the flap still torn.
You can keep the letter, file it, or put it in a drawer and forget which one. None of those changes anything that is true. You do not need a ritual of destruction in order to be free of it.
You have a name spoken by Jesus well beyond that page. He knows His sheep, says the written word, and He speaks to them by name rather than by number. The Holy Spirit carries that voice into the quiet room where your own handwriting is still perfectly legible at the top of an old form. The list was never the book of your life.
The bold date marks an ending. It does not mark the end of God.
Declare this over yourself
- Membership letter, you can describe an administrative list, but you cannot unname me before Christ. The written word says Jesus knows me, and the Holy Spirit keeps my belonging alive beyond your bold date.
- Fear that removal from their list means removal from God's hand, release your claim in the name of Jesus. I am known, held, and fully His without an appeal or return.
- God, You call me by a name no office created. I receive the witness of Your Holy Spirit now and rest in the hand of Christ where no human list can reach.
